Rupert "STIGMATA" Wainwright has signed to direct MGM's big screen version of "THE OUTER LIMITS", based on the successful sci-fi-horror TV series of the same name. Screenplay is by writers Gerald Di Pego ("PHENOMENON") with sons Justin/Zachary.
The original concept for the episodic anthology series (revived by Showtime and The Sci-Fi Channel), was based on sci-fi pulp magazine adventures of the 1950's, each show beginning with a scientific 'fact', subsequently developed into fantastic dramatic adventures.
Executive Producer Leslie Stevens, had originally won a playwriting contest in 1939, sponsored by Orson Wells' Mercury Theatre. In 1946, Stevens enrolled at the Yale School of Drama. Moving to California in 1958, Stevens began writing, co-producing and directing with TV credits including "McCLoud," "Men From Shiloh," "Name of the Game," "Invisible Man" and "Gemini Man."
Original series writer-Producer Joseph Stefano, sold his first screenplay "The Black Orchid," (Sophia Loren/Anthony Quinn) followed by Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho".
MGM promises that the big screen version of "THE OUTER LIMITS" will be like nothing ever seen before on the big screen.
